NYC Kids PAC endorses Maya Wiley for Mayor, with 2nd ranked choice of Dianne Morales
Today, NYC Kids PAC, the only political PAC in NYC focused on supporting and improving our public schools and led by parent volunteers, announced their endorsements in the Mayoral primary due to take place on June 22.
The organization endorsed Maya Wiley as their first choice, with Dianne Morales as their second choice for Mayor. These two women both have proven track records in advocating for the changes most parents and teachers would like to see in our public schools. They also oppose the use of high-stakes testing and the continued expansion of charter schools, which draw essential resources from our schools and have been supported by several other candidates, including Eric Adams and Andrew Yang.
Naila Rosario, President of NYC Kids PAC said: “We urge all parents, educators and those who care about the strength of our public school system to vote for these two women on June 22, first for Maya Wiley and second Dianne Morales. Both women support investing in the classroom rather than wasting precious funds on more consultants, contracts and bureaucratic bloat, are in favor of efforts to integrate our schools, and of moving towards a system of school governance that is less autocratic and more democratic and community and parent driven. They also support class size reduction, which is a key issue for most parents. More specifically, Maya Wiley would invest $250 million to be spent on hiring teachers to lower class sizes next year.”
“Maya has exhibited the kind of leadership that listens to all stakeholders, respects the diversity of views on issues, and makes decisions collaboratively and through consensus. I know she values what we contribute to our school system as parents and she is committed to creating an equitable public school system with us. We encourage everyone to read the surveys of both Maya and Dianne to see for themselves their thoughtful and progressive positions on a whole range of critical education issues,” said Shino Tanikawa, NYC Kids PAC member and parent leader.
These endorsements are the final ones to be issued by NYC Kids PAC. The group has already endorsed Brad Lander as NYC Comptroller, and in the Borough President races, Brad Hoylman as Manhattan Borough President with Kim Watkins as their second ranked choice, and Antonio Reynoso for Brooklyn Borough President with Jo Anne Simon as their second choice.
NYC Kids PAC has also made endorsements and ranked choices in 24 City Council races.
As Naila Rosario said, “We will reach out to thousands of our subscribers and members, to encourage them to donate and volunteer for the campaigns of these exceptional individuals and to vote for them on June 22. Both Maya Wiley and Dianne Morales, as well as our other endorsed and ranked choice candidates, are committed to strengthen, protect, and invest in our public schools to improve the opportunities of all NYC public-school students to succeed, while remaining responsive to parents and community needs.
