We had a great Parent Action Conference on March 9!

We had a terrific annual Parent Action Conference on March 9, co-sponsored with Class Size Matters and CEC2  at the Peck Slip School in lower Manhattan. We started the day with a panel of state legislators including Senator Robert Jackson and Assemblymembers Alicia Hyndman and Jo Anne Simon.  We asked them about their stances on Mayoral control, charter schools, testing, school funding, class size and more.

We had workshops on loads of important subjects, including challenging class size and school overcrowding, Opting out of testing, how to run for office, advocating for your child with special needs, protecting student privacy, school integration, fighting charters.  At each one we had a call to action, to let parents know how they could help make positive change in your children’s schools.

During lunch, we had Senator John Liu and Councilmember Brad Lander speak and answer questions, and at the end of the day we will show the film Tested about NYC students preparing to take the specialized high school exam.

Thanks to all who came!  Photos of the event are posted on the Class Size Matters Facebook page here.
