Our endorsements for the Assembly — & what parents should say to Gov. Hochul
The Democratic primary for the Assembly and Governor is Tuesday, June 28, 2022, and early voting has begun and runs through June 26. You can find your early voting and your regular polling site here.
NYC Kids PAC is endorsing the following candidates for Assembly, based on their surveys and records on public education, and we hope you will vote for them:
- Juan Ardilla, running in an open seat in AD37 in central Queens;
- Grace Lee, running in an open seat in AD 65 on the Lower East Side of Manhattan;
- Layla Law-Gisiko, running in AD 75, in an open seat that runs from Chelsea up to Midtown Manhattan;
- Jonathan Soto. running in AD 82 in the NE Bronx, challenging Michael Benedetto.
If you click on their names you can read their thoughtful surveys, showing their commitment to strengthening our public schools. If you enter your address in this helpful guide from The City, you will see what Assembly district you live in and who are your choices on the ballot.
One more thing: The Governor’s race is also on the ballot. We are not making any endorsements in this race, but we are very concerned that Gov. Hochul has still not signed the new class size bill, requires class sizes to be reduced in all grades. This delay has allowed the Mayor to radically cut school budgets , which will cause class sizes to sharply increase instead.
We urge you to call the Governor today at 518-474-8390; and tell her office that you will not consider voting for her until and unless she signs the class size bill. You can also sign a petition urging her to do so, that we have co-sponsored with other education groups.
