NYC KidsPAC final endorsements for tomorrow’s state elections!
The midterm elections are tomorrow, Tuesday Nov. 6. We urge you to vote for our endorsed candidates, including:
- Governor and Lt. Gov. – Howie Hawkins and Jia Lee (Green Party.)
Howie Hawkins and Jia Lee have outstanding positions on the education issues most public school parents care about, whether it’s keeping the cap on charter schools, more equitable education funding, reducing class size or reforming mayoral control; see their surveys here. Jia, in particular, is a NYC teacher and has testified eloquently before Congress on the damage done by high stakes testing.
In contrast, Governor Cuomo is still captive to the charter lobby. He just received $130,000 from donors with ties to the charter school industry, including the heirs to the Walmart fortune, Eva Moskowitz’ PAC and others. During his one debate with Mark Molinaro, Cuomo said he would sit down with Mayor de Blasio to try to persuade him to give charters more space in our public school buildings.
And please don’t forget to vote for our other endorsed candidates:
- Attorney General: Letitia James
- Senate District 22: Andrew Gournades
And all the terrific candidates we previously endorsed who won their primaries!
John Liu in Senate District 11; Jessica Ramos in Senate District 13; Julia Salazar in Senate District 18, Zellnor Myrie in Senate District 20; Robert Jackson in Senate District 31; and Catalina Cruz in Assembly District 39.
This fall, we have a real chance to flip the State Senate for the nearly the first time in decades. With a Democratic majority including lots of newly-elected progressives, the Legislature will be far more likely to represent the interests of NYC kids rather than the billionaires who have had far too much influence up to now over our public schools.
But in any case, please be sure to vote in these historic elections. The polls will be open tomorrow Tuesday from 6:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. You can find your polling place by clicking here.
Thanks,
Naila, Isaac, Gloria, Fatima, Leonie, Eduardo, Andy, Brooke, Jiin, Karen, Shino and Tesa
